


NATIONAL SKIPPING CHALLENGE
South of England Championship
Saturday 18th June 2005
At St Luke’s Primary School, Elm Rd, Kingston upon Thames
The National Skipping Challenge has been organised by Skipping Workshops for the last three years. It has involved over 800 children from over 200 schools across the UK. The competition is open to all primary school children who have reached the qualifying scores in the ‘challenge’ ( details on the website: www.skipping-workshops.co.uk)
This inaugural championship will be in four sections: continuous crossovers, pretzels, double unders and ‘Keep the Pot Boiling’ The first three are individual events, ‘Keep the Pot Boiling’ is a school-based team event, with a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 8 children in each team.
Programme for the day:
12.00 to 12.30 registration
12.30 warm up
12.45 explanation of the rules and format of the competition
1.00 continuous crossover competition
1.30 continuous pretzels competition
2.00 continuous double unders competition
2.30 ‘Keep the Pot boiling’ competition
3.00 Display by the ‘Bouncers Skipping Team’
3.15 Presentation of cups and medals
Five championship cups will be awarded, one for each of the four competitions, plus one for the overall individual champion, as well as medals for the first three in each event.

To register, please arrive at St Luke’s between 12.00 and 12.30. Entry fees are £2 for each of the three individual sections; there is no fee for the ‘Keep the Pot Boiling’ section.
National Skipping Challenge Championship Rules.
There will be three individual events: Continuous crossovers, continuous pretzels and continuous double unders.
For each event, children will be allowed two attempts, with the better score counting.
At the start of each event, the head judge will call ‘ Skippers ready? Judges ready? You may begin’ Any child or judge who is not ready should raise their hand.
At the start of each event, competitors are allowed up to three single or double bounce jumps before starting there score. Competitors who take more than the three steps will be penalised five points.
Once a competitors’ sequence comes to an end ( i.e. makes a mistake) they are asked to sit down and wait until all competitors have finished.

There is, therefore, a maximum score of 150 for each of the three events and a total maximum of 450.
In the event of a tie in any event, there will be a ‘skip off’ between those involved in the tie. However, on this occasion, competitors will have only one attempt.
The order of skipping for each event will be drawn once registrations are complete
