Playground Mentors

If your school is interested in developing the role of older pupils

in organising activities on the playground for their younger peers,

you may be interested in a course,

DEVELOPING THE ROLE OF PLAYGROUND SKIPPING MENTORS

How it works: our chief coach, Harold Galley would come to your school at around 1.30 p.m. and run a 90-minute course for pupils in Year 6 ( and/or Year 5) plus any interested staff who would like to take more responsibility in terms of organising playground skipping activities for younger pupils. The course would cover:

Ø      how to get very young children started

Ø      how to develop early skills

Ø      long rope games for 2, 3 or 4 children

Ø      simple skipping rhymes

Ø      how to enter and exit the turning rope

Ø      a repertoire of long rope games for up to 12 children

Ø      face to face partner games

Ø      side-by-side partner games

Ø      an introduction to double dutch skipping

In addition, the school would receive a copy of our coaching notes ( easy to photocopy),  plus one ‘Skip to it’ book, (an excellent 125-page guide to skipping skills).

The cost of the course is £85

At the end of the course ( around 3 o’clock), the trainee mentors would stay on to help run, with Mr Galley,  a one-hour after-school skipping workshop for younger children. ( maximum number :40). The after-school workshop costs parents £3 per child. During this session the trainee mentors would have the chance to put their new skills into practice. By the end of the workshop the new mentors would have developed the skills necessary to encourage playground skipping on a daily basis.

If you would like to book a session or just discuss this further, please contact Harold Galley on 0208 786 7707, or through our website,  or by email : h.galley@btinternet.com
