Skipping Challenge 2006

Some Amazing Scores!.... and new British records!!

The National Skipping Challenge is becoming increasingly popular with a record number of entries this year. We have also received many outstanding scores recently from schools in the Isle of Man; for more information go to www.skipping.gov.im Most notably, five Year 6 pupils at Rushen Primary in the Isle of Man set a new Keep the Pot Boiling record of  3172! At the end of her Spring term, we had the first new British record for over three years when 10 year old Lucy Hill from Langley Junior School in Plymouth  managed an amazing 2014 continuous crossovers. Lucy is a remarkable girl because she spent the early part of her life battling leukaemia. The teacher who promotes skipping at the school, Richard Arundell, says, 'We are really proud of Lucy's achievements at Langley and she's an inspiration to all those who come into contact with her'  At the skipping challenge on April 28th the overall winner was Lucy Hill. A highlight of the day was a new Year 2 record, when Fiona Thomson from Seer Green managed 191 continuous crossovers! Category winners were: continuous crossovers; Lucy Hill: 1112, pretzels: Bethany Chadwick from Seer Green Primary: 180 and Double Unders : Ashley Caplin from Auriol Junior in Epsom & Ewell: 124.

We've also had a remarkable double dutch score at the start of the summer term. A score of over 100 requires superb fitness and sustained concentration: scores over 200 are very rare and, in April there was, nationwide, only one score above 200. However, on May 1st  three year 5 pupils form Hevingham Primary in Norfolk scored above 200: they were Emily Rowland( 360), Harri Clarke ( 256) and Lauren Feeney (232). Towards the end of term, we had the highest ever Key Stage 1 double dutch score, remarkably from a pupil in Reception, 5 year old James Gelling form St Dunstan's Primary in Sutton scored an amazing 140!

Summer term challenge 2007: we are again having a novice approach this term; this means that children who have come first, second or third in any category previously cannot enter in that category this term. However, this does not apply to Keep the Pot Boiling; any queries about this please call Harold Galley on 0208 786 7707.
